Jenkins participated in Hold Their Feet to the Fire, a two-day event that ended Thursday. The event was put on by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a nonprofit organization focused on stopping illegal immigration.

Drumming up the Latino vote

Volunteers left from Centro San Martin de Porres in Pilsen before sunrise Tuesday, making a last-day push to get Latino voters out.  

Part of a Chicago-wide effort led by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee rights to mobilize immigrant voters, volunteers knocked on doors urging people to go to the polls.  

Mayra Quiroa, 24, with Mujeres Latinos en Accion,  directed the effort at Centro San Martin and said the nonpartisan group supports candidates who support immigrant issues like the Dream Act.
